A Decolonial Feminism by Françoise Vergès (2021)

November 6 @ 16:00 - 18:00

On Sunday 6th November we’ll be picking up A Decolonial Feminism by Françoise Vergès.

This manifesto is wholly intersectional and argues for a feminism which takes aim at the oppressive systems structuring our lives.
A feminism true to its liberatory potential cannot, and must not sit easily alongside capitalism, racism, colonialism or imperialism.
Feminist liberation must be total liberation for everybody.

The areas covered in the text span a broad array of material.
“A Decolonial Feminism grapples with the central issues in feminist debates today: from Eurocentrism and whiteness, to power, inclusion and exclusion. Delving into feminist and anti-racist histories, Verges also assesses contemporary activism, movements and struggles, including #MeToo and the Women’s Strike.”

A Decolonial Feminism is a relatively short and very inspiring read.

We will meet at 16:00 at the community kitchen de peper, located at OT301 in Amsterdam (http://www.ot301.nl).
We’ll discuss the text for a couple of hours and then (for those who wish to continue) enjoy a vegan meal (donation based).

If you wanna join for dinner you need to call on the same day to reserve (0684781156), or you can sign up at the bar while you’re there.

According to their website the lovely Het Fort van Sjakoo has copies of the book in stock, reach out to them if you want to buy a hard copy.
The e-book is available directly from the publisher at https://www.plutobooks.com/9780745341125/a-decolonial-feminism/

If you want to attend the session but money reasons make it difficult for you to get hold of the book please reach out to us and we will try to help.

Like the FCA more generally we aim to be a harassment free space for everybody. If you are new to our meetings, or feel you need a refresher please read our code of conduct to find out what behaviors we hope for from you, and hold ourselves to in our sessions.

Looking forward to seeing you all!
