Delusions of gender: How our minds, society, and neurosexism create difference by Cordelia Fine (2010)
January 21 @ 19:00 - 21:00
On the 21st of January we’ll be looking at something a little different from our previous sessions; Cordelia Fine’s Delusions of gender: How our minds, society, and neurosexism create difference (2010).
It looks set to be a nice start to a new year of feminist reads.
In Delusions of gender Fine argues against the notion that the human brain is sexed, challenging the idea of innate brain difference, and exposing this grounding of sexism at the brain-level as a mechanism which shores up sexism as inevitable; as natural. When we are told that there is male-brain and that there is a female-brain we are told to accept that men are by nature better at subjects like math, economics, and engineering, and women are just, by nature, worse in these subjects, but ‘not to worry’, more capable at performing housework! Fine has other ideas and explanations, and in this book shares them with us.
In all likelihood we will still be trying to keep each other safe from COVID-19 for this one so will again meet online at 19. You can sign up to the event on our book club pages on either Facebook or Meetup, and as usual we will post a ‘final’ registration form for the event nearer the time. If you are unable to sign up with Facebook or Meetup then please get in touch and we will send you what you need.

On another note, if you have any suggestions of feminist reads that you think would be interesting and are keen to share the reading experience of them with us, please let us know.
