Sorry that there’s been a bit of a delay in posting this one, but we thought it would be nice to read something on the topic of ecofeminism, and from there got a bit dazzled by all of the possibilities.
We eventually settled on Ecofeminism by Maria Mies and Vandana Shiva, first published in 1993 with a second edition released in 2014, with the idea that it will be a good foundational text. It’s 360 pages long.
The authors explore questions such as the following:
“Is there a relationship between patriarchal oppression and the destruction of nature in the name of profit and progress?
“Is there a relationship between patriarchal oppression and the destruction of nature in the name of profit and progress?
How can women counter the violence inherent in these processes? and;
Should they look for a link between the women’s movement and other social movements?
Should they look for a link between the women’s movement and other social movements?
Mies and Shiva argue “that ecological destruction constitutes a direct threat to the reproduction of everyday life, which historically has been the responsibility of women.
The authors criticize prevailing theories and develop an intellectually rigorous ecofeminist perspective rooted in the needs of everyday life”.

We will meet on Thursday the 1st of July, a little later than our normal start time, at 19:30. Once again we’ll be hosting online.
We will post a registration form about a week before the event. Please remember to fill this in as we use the email addresses given there to send you the zoom link.
There is also space on the form for you to let us know any topics or questions you would most like to discuss. It’d be lovely to hear what jumps out at you, and what you’d like to dig into together.
