Feminism and Nationalism in the Third World by Kumari Jayawardena

May 7 @ 16:00 - 18:00

—Date of event has changed. We will now discuss this May 7th —

In April we will read a text that for years has been considered “an essential primer on the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century history of women’s movements in Asia and the Middle East”.

In Feminism and Nationalism in the Third World Kumari Jayawardena “presents feminism as it originated in the Third World, erupting from the specific struggles of women fighting against colonial power, for education or the vote, for safety, and against poverty and inequality”.

As always we will meet at 16:00 at the community kitchen de peper located inside OT301 (http://www.ot301.nl).
We’ll discuss the text for a couple of hours and then (for those who wish) enjoy a vegan meal (donation based).
If you want to join for dinner you need to call on the same day to reserve (0684781156) or you can sign up at the bar while you’re there.

De peper has a ramp and a large toilet.
If you have access needs regarding the event that you feel may not already be in place please get in contact with us so that we can do our best to incorporate these.
We understand that it can be daunting to attend events where you don’t yet know anyone. If you feel worried or socially anxious about attending and would like to meet one of us first also reach out to us.
If you want to attend the session but money reasons make it difficult for you to get hold of the book we will try to help.

The lovely Het Fort van Sjakoo in Amsterdam has the paperback listed on their website and says that you can write to them to ask if something is not currently available.
It is possible to buy the Ebook direct from the publisher at verso.com.

Like the FCA more generally we aim to be a harassment free space for everybody. If you are new to our meetings, or feel you need a refresher please read our code of conduct to find out what behaviors we hope for from you, and hold ourselves to in our sessions.
