Feminism in Film: A Honeycomb Perspective Facebook live

October 5, 2020 @ 20:00 - 21:30

The date of this event has changed to Monday 5 October at 20:00.
Abortion, menstruation, hijab or no hijab, mother-daughter relationships… director Haider Hussain’s short film ‘Honeycomb’ (in production) has a lot to say.
Join us in a discussion about how feminism plays a role in ‘Honeycomb’. This event is organised by Aletta Stories, with the support of Feminist Club Amsterdam.
What role do men play, or should (not) play, in a story about a young woman?
What is the film industry like for women today? What can be done to offer more authentic representations of women’s experiences in film?
How does freedom of choice impact character development?
What are the limits of ‘mutual understanding’ amongst women?
This event is free, online, and open to everyone. Send an email to honeycombfilm@gmail.com to join via Zoom, or join us via Facebook Live.
More about Honeycomb:
Mariyam, a twenty-year-old Dutch Muslim heavy metal vocalist, realises she might be pregnant. How does she reconcile this news with her different cultural identities and, above all, tell her mother?
‘Honeycomb’ has a strong focus on the fluidity of identity as it challenges cultural stereotypes. In this case it opens an intimate window into the life of a young Dutch-Pakistani woman. Through the strong, independent female protagonist, the film proudly promotes women’s rights over their bodies. With this film the makers want to break stereotypes and taboos about women, femininity, menstruation, feminism, sexuality, and muslim women.
This film is still in production and needs your help and support to come to reality. Check out our crowdfunding page more info and our rewards: https://cinecrowd.com/honeycomb
