Happy New Year everybody.
As it has already been a while since we last got together to discuss a book we didn’t want to extend that period for any longer than necessary, so for the next meeting we will be reading something on the shorter side – ‘I who have never known men’ by Jacqueline Harpman, translated by Ros Schwartz.
‘I who have never known men’ was first published in 1995 in French and is considered by some to be a Belgian feminist classic.
“Harpman’s 1995 novel is narrated by a young girl, who is being held in an underground bunker with 39 older women and watched by all-male guards. None of the women know what has happened upon the surface, or how long they will be there; Harpman’s narrator learns to tell time by counting her heartbeats. Then, one day, the guards flee and the women escape – only to find themselves struggling to survive in a barren landscape.”

We will meet on Wednesday 2nd February at 19:30 and will once again be hosting online. Despite being online we’d really appreciate still being able to see each other so ask that everyone turns their cameras on for at least the first 10 minutes of our meeting.
We won’t organize discussion starters for this one so please be prepared to bring and speak out with your opinions and most anything else you’d like to share from your reading of the book.
Approximately a week before the event we’ll post and ask you to fill in a registration form, which we use to get an accurate idea of who is joining us and to get the email addresses we send the link video link out to.
Also, if you already have some questions/comments with regards to the text that you’d like to discuss during the session there’s space for you to let us know that on the form too.
