Living a Feminist Life | Feminist Book Club #13
April 12 @ 19:30 - 21:30Free
What does it mean to live a feminist life?
Published in 2017, Living a Feminist Life requires ‘asking ethical questions’ about how we live and “how to keep coming up against histories that have become concrete, histories that have become as solid as walls.”
“Building on legacies of feminist of color scholarship in particular, Ahmed offers a poetic and personal meditation on how feminists become estranged from worlds they critique—often by naming and calling attention to problems—and how feminists learn about worlds from their efforts to transform them. Ahmed also provides her most sustained commentary on the figure of the feminist killjoy introduced in her earlier work while showing how feminists create inventive solutions—such as forming support systems—to survive the shattering experiences of facing the walls of racism and sexism. The killjoy survival kit and killjoy manifesto, with which the book concludes, supply practical tools for how to live a feminist life, thereby strengthening the ties between the inventive creation of feminist theory and living a life that sustains it.” (https://www.dukeupress.edu/living-a-feminist-life)
More on Sara Ahmed:
We will meet on the 12th of April at 19:30. As most government corona measures have been lifted, we are planning to meet in person this time! However, caution is still advised, so we would appreciate it if you take the following advice to heart:
– Stay home if you have complaints
– Do a self-test before you come
– Don’t shake hands
– Keep your distance as much as possible
The location of the event will be posted a few days before. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hope to see you all there!
