Whipping Girl by Julia Serano
May 20 @ 19:00 - 21:00
Whipping Girl was first published in 2007 by Seal Press and at that time it was Serano’s first full length book.
Serano describes the book as “a collection of personal essays that debunk many of the myths and misconceptions that people have about trans women, as well as the subject in general”.
In 2016, Serano brought out a second edition, “basically the same book, but with a few clarifying changes, and a new Preface chronicling how the book came to be, plus the many changes in transgender activism since its initial release.”

We will read the second edition, although if you already have the first it shouldn’t be too difficult for us to understand each other.
We will meet on Thursday 20th May at 19:00.
Our meeting will once again be online, using zoom.
Here’s the registration form for this one:
Please fill it in before midday on Thursday, we’ll use the email addresses given there to send you the zoom link. There is also space on the form for you to let us know any topics or questions you would most like to discuss.
We will send you the zoom link on the day itself.
The bookstore Het Fort van Sjakoo in Amsterdam has the first edition available in paperback on it’s website, but they also say that it’s possible for them to order books on request. You can find their email address on their website (https://sjakoo.nl/contact/).
It’s also possible to get an ebook copy from the independent ebook retailer at https://www.ebooks.com/en-nl/.
