Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi
July 27 @ 19:30 - 21:00
“The literary fiction of the Egyptian author, feminist activist, and medical practitioner Nawal El Saadawi has incited both acclaim and controversy in the Arab world for its strident portrayals of female sexuality. Among her works, the semi-autobiographical novel Woman at Point Zero (2007) has assumed particular renown.”
Our next book club read is Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi, who is considered as “Egypt’s most radical woman”. First published in Arabic in 1977, the text was initially banned from publication in Cairo for its explicit portrayal of suffering by women. We will read this powerful book about a woman struggle for their rights.
We will meet online on the 27th of July at 19:30.*
We will post the registration form one week prior to the event. Please fill this in as we use it to gather the email addresses we send the video link to. We’ll close the registration form around midday on the 26th and send the link sometime before the event.
We’d love to hear the thoughts, questions, and connections that you have and make while reading the book and there’s space for you to note those on the form too. If you’d like to join us but money reasons make it difficult for you to get hold of the book please reach out to us to see if we can sort something out!
